When the Los Angeles Rams signed free agent quarterback Dan Orlovsky to play for the team in 2017, they were not interested in his throwing arm. They were after his mind. That's right. Over the years, Orlovsky learned the brutal truth that he was not as physically gifted to play quarterback in the NFL as his contemporaries. So he learned how to master out-thinking them.

It was that ability to study video footage and quickly ascertain what the offense was trying to do, and what the defense was doing to stop them, that made him the ideal addition to the Rams roster. In 2017, Rams HC Sean McVay needed Dan Orlovsky to join the Rams roster and sit with then-QB Jared Goff to help him watch and analyze video footage. That was a vital step to improving Goff's ability to perform on the football field.

It worked. Jared Goff led the Rams to the NFL Playoffs over the next two seasons. And if you had to determine how the 0-7 rookie quarterback from 2016 could erupt for an 11-5 record the following year, you need look no further than the ability of Dan Orlovsky to break down plays and spoon feed the key elements of information to his teammate.

Of course, all good things must come to an end. QB Jared Goff is playing for the Detroit Lions now, starring in Netflix QB season 2, and trying to play victim after being traded from the Los Angeles Rams. You might think he would be grateful for landing on a team that seems to be a better fit. Well, live and learn.

Dan Orlovsky has moved on as well. He is an NFL Insider/analyst with ESPN and has been one of the best NFL analysts at breaking down plays to give viewers and fans incredible insight and impactful information. And he has been noticed for doing such an outstanding job that he has been extended:

Dan Orlovsky is not doing anything new, here. He is still breaking down football videos and explaining what someone needs to know by watching them. Now, the only difference is that he is not just breaking it down for a teammate, but rather for fans and viewers who lucked into catching him on air.

Orlovsky is one of the better NFL analysts. I'm thrilled that ESPN has recognized what Rams fans have known for many years.

As always, thanks for reading.
