The Los Angeles Rams are about to enter one of the most promising and challenging NFL free agency markets since hiring head coach Sean McVay in 2017. Never before has the team had so much imminent talent on the roster, and yet still in need of veteran reinforcements.

So it's a financial thread that needs to be fitted through the eye of a needle.

Still, it's a great time to be a fan. General manager Les Snead has already tipped his hand by trading for Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie. And the team has looked to its own with extensions for defensive back Kam Curl and tight end Tyler Higbee.

Now the team must turn towards the 2026 NFL free agency market for new and familiar faces for 2026.

While the team may not view the safety position as one of need, Snead can hardly say no to an opportunity to upgrade the roster and add harmonious upside to the secondary. That opportunity may come in the form of former Browns veteran defensive back Rayshawn Jenkins.

In fact, he could be the ideal sidekick for recently extended defensive back Quentin Lake. Here's why:

Florida born free agent could be Quentin Lake's dream Rams sidekick

As soon as Quentin Lake suffered an injury in 2025, the defense faltered. The team simply did not have anyone who could slide into Lake's role and offer anything close to his versatility and coverage skills. Rayshawn Jenkins can.

Jenkins is a 32-year-old veteran who has played for the Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, and Cleveland Browns. While his starting days may be behind him, he continues to offer versatility and adequate coverage skills. Best of all, he played just 277 defensive snaps in 2025. So he is not going to hold out for a starting role.

Despite the light workload, he held opposing quarterbacks to just a 66.7 completion rate. He was a sure-handed tackler, only coming up empty on 6.3 percent of his attempts to bring the ball-carrier to the ground. And his extensive experience with the Chargers means that he knows Los Angeles, California.

While the team is bursting with talent at safety, nobody filled Lake's void in 2025. And if general manager Les Snead is wise, adding a veteran like Jenkins could give Lake more rest during games, adding to his longevity and reducing his risks of any additional injuries.

Best of all, Rayshawn Jenkins is a solid cover guy on special teams, an area this team must improve. Not every free agent fits LA. Rayshawn Jenkins does.

That's why he is the perfect sidekick for LA Rams Quentin Lake. As always, thanks for reading.
