For the LA Rams offense, continuity is a top priority for 2025

The best 2 abilities in the NFL are durability and availability

The Los Angeles Rams want to do a better job on the offense in 2025. It makes plenty of sense, as the team spent the most on the offense of any NFL team, but finished 20th in NFL scoring. And that includes plenty of points scored by the very opportunistic defense. While it's easy to point to a goal of scoring more points in 2025, it's a tough area to improve. Based on the fact that the Rams have allowed three veteran wide receivers to land with new teams, you can readily guess where the team's brass believes the problem was happening.

While there are many ways to attack that goal, one of the challenges and priorities for the team is to improve the depth, talent, and durability of the offensive line. The Rams have made several signings already that add to the quality of the offensive line in all three categories..

Per NFL analyst Mike Jurecki, the Rams have plenty of room for improvement in that area. He created a data table that detailed how often the starting five offensive linemen suited up and played together in 2024. I admit that I was a bit surprised to learn that the Rams starting five offensive linemen only played together for 23.27 percent of the offensive snaps last season:

The team suited up Alatic Jackson, Steve Avila, Beaux Limmer, Kevin Dotson, and Rob Havenstein for just 242 offensive snaps. While the group did still manage to be one of the best groups in terms of protecting quarterback Matthew Stafford (just 31 QB sacks allowed, good for sixth-best in the NFL), the lack of continuity played a part in a lack of comfort for both Stafford and the offense as a whole.

The team is bringing back starting left tackle Alaric Jackson and young backup center Dylan McMahon. The team is also adding veteran IOL Coleman Shelton, who will likely compete with Beaux Limmer for the starting center role.

And the team is counting on the likes of Justin Dedich, AJ Arcuri, Warren McClendon Jr., and KT Leveston to round out the depth for the front line blockers. Will that be enough for the upcoming 2025 NFL season? I expect the team to add at least three more offensive linemen, and there could be some diamonds in the rough available to sign even after the 2025 NFL Draft. While they are unlikely to challenge for starting roles, even making the practice squad in 2025 is a huge win for young players who want to get their foot in the door to start their NFL careers.

Any offensive linemen who join the Rams roster in 2025 are likely to be the backbone of the offense that blocks for Matthew Stafford's successor. So even players signed after the draft could have vital roles for the team soon.

It starts with continuity in 2025. The Rams need to keep players healthy this year. Healthy teams win championships. Deep team rosters win games. Hopefully, the Los Angeles Rams will score highly in both categories this season.

As always, thank you so much for reading.
