Forget the scoreboard, Week 7 was all about the LA Rams defense
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams needed a win in Week 7. It was a line in the proverbial sand for the team. Falling to 1-5 was almost certainly a deal-breaker for any postseason aspirations. But a victory would be enough to keep the dream alive, for five more days at least.
If you are looking for glowing reports, positive trends, things to get excited about, then there is not much to celebrate on the offensive side of the football. Without the aid of defensive turnovers, the offense failed to score a single point in the game. It truly pains me to admit it, but the Raiders defense dominated the Rams offense throughout the game.
So how did the Rams win? Well, it was all thanks to the defense. You know, the same defense that fans have been demanding fire new DC Chris Shula? But it was Shula's defense that got the win in this one.
The Rams needed a win whether by begging, borrowing, or stealing, and as it turns out, the team had to steal one. Literally. The Rams defense generated a season-high four turnovers to giftwrap the offense two easy scoring drives. Still not enough, the defense put up its own touchdown to boost the Rams score to 20 points. Thanks to the defense not allowing the Raiders into the endzone all game, they had to settle for five field goals.
DB Cobie Durant had an interception and a strip sack in the game. That sack led to a fumble recovery by teammate Kamren Curl and a 33-yard scamper for a TD. Two other interceptions came off the hands of DB Jaylen McCollough, who ups his total to three for the season. With the exception of John Johnson III, McCollough is the only Rams defender to record an interception this season.
So let's recap the touchdowns scored in this one:
- Two touchdown runs by RB Kyren Williams after an interception
- One defensive fumble recovery ran in for a score
- No Raiders touchdowns scored
The LA Rams win this one by a final score of 20-15. But the offensive ineptness leaves many with more questions than answers over the future of this team. Until the Rams offense starts to move the football and score consistently, this success is short-lived.
Final Score
- Las Vegas Raiders 15
- Los Angeles Rams 20
As always, thanks for reading.
