Former Rams' rival quarterback sounds the alarm with Matthew Stafford's back

This is not good.

It's no secret that Matthew Stafford has been dealing with a back injury this offseason, and a former NFC West QB just sounded the alarm with the Rams' passer. Stafford is still not participating on a consistent basis, and it truly now feels like his Week 1 status is up in the air.

This is just a disaster for the Los Angeles Rams, but I guess it should not come as a total surprise. Stafford has been banged up for most of his career in some capacity. While he actually hasn't missed a ton of game action, he's played hurt too many times to count.

With the veteran QB approaching 40 years old and now entering his age-37 season, this back ailment might be more serious than originally thought, and this former NFL quarterback and Rams' rival pretty much confirmed this.

Former NFL QB Matt Hasselbeck says he is 'concerned' about Matthew Stafford's back injury

Matt Hasselbeck played 17 years in the NFL and 10 with the Seattle Seahawks, making the Super Bowl with them back in 2005. He was on The Herd with Colin Cowherd recently and didn't sugarcoat his back injury for Rams' fans:

With there being less than a month until the start of the 2025 NFL Season, Matthew Stafford doesn't have a ton of time to get his back right, but given his age and how many hits he's taken in the NFL, this injury also might not go away.

From a football perspective, not having Stafford out there is going to seriously hurt the Rams, and it could hurt their division chances and make the NFC West wide open. The Rams do have the best team in the division, but that isn't the case if the Super Bowl champion isn't on the field.

This roster might be the best that we've seen from GM Les Snead in quite some time, so while we all hope Matthew Stafford returns to the field and is healthy, the roster isn't going to reach its full potential if he isn't out on the field.
