Former Rams WR DeSean Jackson confirms this about Matthew Stafford

DeSean Jackson only played 7 games for the Rams in 2021. But that was enough to know this about starting QB Matthew Stafford.

When the Los Angeles Rams signed veteran free agent DeSean Jackson for the 2021 NFL season, the team made a deliberate decision to reunite a veteran player with the offensive genius that unlocked his best NFL performances. While you may associate DJax with the Philadelphia Eagles, he had a very productive chapter while playing for the Washington Commanders. And the Commander Offensive Coordinator during that time was none other than LA Rams HC Sean McVay.

Jackson's tenure did not last long with the Rams. He played just seven games, caught just eight of 15 passes, but put up 221 receiving yards and a touchdown. If you have forgotten what he delivered to the offense, he average 27.6 yards per reception, and had a 75-yard touchdown reception. From the moment Jackson's hands hauled in the pass, Rams fans moved to the edge of their seats, anticipating another huge gain.

The Rams roster seemed to support a deliberate effort to incorporate explosive plays into the offensive playbook. DeSean Jackson was simply one of several receivers sent flying down the football field. Jackson was backed up by rookie speedster Tutu Atwell. Even WR Van Jefferson was sent flying down the field. While Atwell was not targeted in 2021, Jefferson's 2021 numbers became the high water mark of his NFL career with 802 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.

It was a good year to be a receiver on the Rams roster.

DeSean Jackson confirms this about Rams QB Matthew Stafford

Despite the short amount of time playing together, Rams QB Matthew Stafford certainly made a huge impression on DeSean Jackson. How do I know this? When he appeared on the Green Light Podcast with Chris Long, Jackson was asked which NFL quarterback threw the most catchable ball. DeSean Jackson stated with conviction that Matthew Stafford throws the most catchable football in the NFL:

For Rams fans anxious to see how well veteran WR Davante Adams does in the offense this year, that is music to your ears. After all, Jackson certainly made the rounds to a myriad of NFL offenses and caught passes from many quarterbacks. But to call out Matthew Stafford as the guy who throws the most catchable football is both a huge complement and a solid reason to be optimistic for the upcoming 2025 season.

Throwing a catchable football is exactly what it sounds like. The thing is, it's not an easy task to accomplish. A quarterback has to face the onslaught of pass rushers, diagnose coverages, make the decision to throw the football to the open receiver, and then deliver the football with enough speed to get to him, but not with so much velocity that it becomes uncatchable.

And Matthes Stafford has refined all of that to a matter of seconds.

The Rams need to amp up the offense this season. Whether or not the defense continues its impressive progress, the offense is simply far too costly to struggle at scoring points. And the offense continues to invest heavily in offensive weapons. At some point, the team needs to insist on a return on that investment.

With wholesale changes to the Rams roster this season, it's a safe bet to expect better production and new wrinkles to the offense this season. With Jackson confirming that Stafford throws the most catchable ball in the NFL, this offense is already on its way.

As always, thanks for reading.
