As soon as the Los Angeles Rams completed the majority of their 2025 roster restocking, it has been the objective of every fan to learn something about the new faces who may contribute this year. Between six drafted and 17 undrafted collegiate free agents, this team is ripe for new faces, new playmakers, a new season, and new achievements.
Despite nearly two dozen rookies, the team's veterans will likely make up most of the gains and improvements this season. It's not that the team did not add very talented rookies. The offseason additions are very gifted. But the Rams are a contender. This is not a team that can send out rookies en masse to gain experience through trial and error.
And that lack of real-time experience could squelch some rookie development. After all, how can rookies grow and develop on the bench?
Still, 2024 rookies must fill in the gaps, and they will. The team gave last year's rookies a sampling of NFL work, whether as a full-time starter or as a rotational reliever. So now, in their second season, the bar of expectations has increased. This team may not have many opportunities for instant impacts from rookies, but you can bet that the team is counting on returning players to take up the slack from vacated roles from last season.
Who might take on larger roles, or greater production, in 2025? We have five 2024 rookies who are poised to find greater playing time and impact this season. And they are:
(5) - K Joshua Karty
One year ago, fans were cautiously optimistic over the arrival of rookie placekicker Joshua Karty. Karty arrived at the Rams as a draft selection out of the University of Stanford, and his arrival signified the team's reinvestment into the special teams unit under ST Coordinator Chase Blackburn. Even as a rookie, Karty hoofed the 10th most field goals made in the NFL with 29 successful three-pointers. But I expect that will improve in 2025.
Karty's overall field goal completion rate clocked in at 85.3 percent, just 19th-place in the NFL. But don't let those numbers fool you. In the ever-important 40+ yarders, Karty was an amazing 10 of 13, or a solid 76.9 percent completion. While there is room for improvement, that is a solid foundation to build upon.
Karty accounted for 119 points on the scoreboard for the Rams in 2024. That number is likely to exceed 130 points in 2025. How can I be so confident? Karty put up 17 points in the 2025 NFL Playoffs and was perfect. He was four of four in field goals and five of five at extra points. That type of success carries over.
He was touted a a placekicking phenomenon in the days leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft. He will start to fulfill that destiny in 2025.
