It only took 3 OTA practices for Ty Simpson hype to completely erupt

That baby-faced rookie QB Ty Simpson already looks like an NFL quarterback on the football field.

Here we go. For fans of the Los Angeles Rams, it's time to fire up the barbecue, chill the beverages, and grab the popcorn. Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are here, and the first glimpses of the rookie quarterback are filling the internet. Los Angeles fans finally get to test expectations with optics, and so far, Simpson is delivering.

Of course, this is all sneakers and shorts. There is no tackling, no contact, and very little in the way of true football. But this is as good as it gets. And for rookie Ty Simpson, it's pretty good so far.

LA has traditionally leaned on veterans when setting the depth chart. But it was clear in just three days of OTAs that tradition may not hold for the backup quarterback position. Simpson is a cool cucumber so far, handling the NFL like an old pro. Lack of experience? It certainly hasn't shown up yet, as the rookie is running drills in lockstep with the team.

Quentin Lake loves what he sees from LA Rams rookie QB Ty Simpson

Rather than appear like a deer in the headlights, Simpson immediately exudes an NFL quarterback aura in OTAs. That's a huge relief, as almost all of the images shared so far look like a teenager who is years away from growing a beard. But there is no question about it any longer: Simpson is slinging laser-guided passes, and that's great news.

Rams safety Quentin Lake shares what he has seen from rookie Ty Simpson, and he loves what he sees from his rookie quarterback. He hesitates to place him at the same level as starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, but he admits that Simpson is a rookie in Day 3 of OTAs, still playing in shorts and sneakers.

The Quentin Lake interview above is loaded with skeptics. Some are claiming that Ty Simpson is never going to see the football field. Okay. But the LA Rams have found success by identifying fits from rookies who did not pique a zealous interest from other NFL teams.

This is an offense powered by running back Kyren Williams (Round 5, 2022 NFL draft) and wide receiver Puka Nacua (Round 5, 2023 NFL draft). So it's not shocking that skeptics continue to line up to rain on LA's parade.

Right now, Ty Simpson is doing all that is asked of him, and he is exceeding expectations in the process. He will have at least a full season before being thrown onto a football field. When the pads go on and he competes in preseason games, he will win over more of his harshest skeptics.

Let the skeptics decry Simpson for now. Once he proves to be worthy of his place on the LA Rams roster, they'll scurry to bash some other rookie who is not meeting expectations.

As always, thanks for reading.
