It's virtually impossible to conduct an in-depth discussion about the Los Angeles Rams without mentioning the state of the wide receiver room. As much as changes or developments lure the conversation in other directions, ultimately Rams fans know that the passing game and the team's wide receivers must come through if this team is to have any success this season.
It's the perspective of veteran wide receiver Davante Adams that the media and fans seem to gravitate towards. As the senior statesman of the Rams' wide receiver room, he has the prerequisite experience to share the best insights into how talented and prepared this group may be for the upcoming season.
And as the newest addition to the team, both the press and fans expect the most objective assessment from him. When Davante Adams stepped up to the podium, questions quickly steered him in the direction of how he views the team and his teammates. And he wasted no time singing the praises of rookie wide receiver Konata Mumpfield.
Adams has plenty of praise for rookie WR Konata Mumpfield
The Rams have taken the approach of not pushing senior veterans, and Adams has earned the right to rest periodically at training camp. As such, he uses that free time to observe, assess, and mentor his younger and less-experienced teammates. At the 14:00 mark, Adams is prompted to discuss what he sees and is learning from younger receivers.
And he instantly mentions rookie wide receiver Konata Mumpfield:
So what does he have to say about the rookie wide receiver out of Pittsburgh?
"But, I have seen stuff from even Konata (Mumpfield) since he has been out here that has opened my eyes, not necessarily like - Oh my God, I have never seen that - but it is him changing up his pace and working through some things, seeing some of the errors and the trial and error I guess I could say, and just watching ...Davante Adams
Even over the course of three practice days, how he can transform and go and kill some of our better corners on some amazing routes. It is fun for me just watching the growth of him, talking through it, seeing somebody fail, doing something a certain way, and then going out there and knock it out of the park. I feel like a proud dad watching him out there."
While a bit lengthy and not all praises, Adams spells out what attracted the Rams to Mumpfield in the 2025 NFL Draft. Konata Mumpfield is getting his first taste of professional football. This is life in the NFL, and he is gulping it down as quickly and thoroughly as he can.
The key to his description is the final sentence: "I feel like a proud dad watching him out there." Keep in mind that this is the same veteran wide receiver who has bounced around the NFL across several teams and offensive schemes in recent years. The way he connects with Mumpfield, like a father feeling pride in his son, says it all.
Davante Adams may feel like a proud papa, but rookie WR Konata Mumpfield is giving him plenty of reasons to be proud. And it’s already clear that Rams rookie WR Konata Mumpfield may have an easier path to playing time than originally expected.
As always, thanks for reading.
