It's not even training camp, but 6 Rams rookies are ready to flip the switch

Some view the Rams 2025 NFL Draft class as underwhelming. But here is what you may be missing.

WR Konata Mumpfield - #15

When a team enters the final two rounds of any NFL draft, the priority changes from seeking players who can make an immediate contribution to either the offense or defense, pivoting towards the objective of finding a player for special teams who can be groomed and coached up to become a contributing role player in either the offense or defense.

Ironically, the Rams' selection of Pittsburgh Panthers rookie wide receiver prospect Konata Mumpfield may have landed a player who could carve out a role on special teams and in the offense.

Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 186 pounds, while posting a 4.59-second time in the 40-yard dash, Mumpfield is unlike receivers who made up the Rams roster at the position in the past. While not touted as a highly regarded rookie in this draft class, many factors showcase why he is an ideal fit for the Rams and a better-than-expected NFL rookie.

For openers, let's talk about what he does so drastically differently. If former Rams WR Cooper Kupp and returning WR Puka Nacua are fast ball receivers, then Konata Mumpfield is a junk receiver. What I mean is that he has a varied tempo and pace that can speed up or slow down instantly. While other receivers throw defensive backs off their scent through head bobs, double moves, and crisp cuts, Mumpfield can do so simply by changing his tempo.

And it works to perfection.

While a raw rookie, Mumpfield is the perfect understudy to veteran wide receiver Davante Adams. Though smaller than Adams, Mumpfield deploys similar strategies in creating separation and will benefit immensely from the opportunity to be mentored by Adams in training camp.

Mumpfield has shown steady and continued growth over four seasons and racked up 52 receptions, 813 receiving yards, and five touchdowns in 2024. He even brings a modest level of experience as a return specialist on special teams.

Konata Mumpfield will not win a foot race. He won't dominate with overwhelming power. He is simply a headsy, passionate wide receiver who will do anything asked of him and give it his all on every play. Those are the types of players who always seem to find a way to win games.

DT Ty Hamilton - #57

It was painfully obvious after the Rams lost a Divisional Round game in the 2025 NFL Playoffs in a snowstorm at Lincoln Financial Field to the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 28-22 that the Rams needed to find players who could stuff the run. While the Rams' front office took a major step in the right direction by signing free agent nose tackle Poona Ford in the offseason, the team needed someone who could come in as his relief and still put up a stingy run defense.

The Rams believe that they found the perfect player when they drafted Ohio State defensive tackle Ty Hamilton. I'm sure that they did.

Hamilton played five seasons for the Ohio State Buckeyes, showing incredible athleticism and steady growth as a football player and with his on-field production. In his final season, he chalked up 51 tackles, six tackles for a loss, 3.5 quarterback sacks, and a fumble recovery.

Hamilton was projected to come off the board early on Day 3, and even those positive draft profiles admit that Hamilton possesses the right baseline for a huge ceiling in the NFL. In short, Hamilton possesses a low center of gravity and a powerful bull rush that can only lead to good things.

It may be that the Rams view Hamilton as a blocker-gobbler and run stuffer, and will limit his role in the defense much like that of Bobby Brown III. But that is a worry for another day. Hamilton has too much upside and production to sit on the bench this year. Poona Ford will be the starting nose tackle, but Ty Hamilton will get a healthy workload this year, too. And from everything I've seen and heard so far, Rams fans will love what he brings.
