While the Los Angeles Rams are by no means immune to adversity, NFL analysts and experts seem to pay close attention to the faults, flaws, and adversity, and leverage those points in preseason projections and rankings as evidence why the Rams do not deserve their place among the NFL's best. But those same rules do not apply to the Rams NFC West Division rivals, the San Francisco 49ers.
Despite excessive injuries to multiple contributors last season, and significant losses of contributors to the 2025 NFL Free Agency market, the 49ers continue to be among the teams that appear in the conversation of the NFL playoffs and even as potential competitors in Super Bowl LX. But that may not be as simple as expecting the team to simply bounce back, buoyed by a last-place schedule and the return of former DC Robert Saleh.
The 49ers are trying to restock a defense in 2025, while trying to squeeze another season out of some of the team's offensive stars. But the strategy has already begun to grind its gears. You see, the offense has already run into a speed bump with the trade demands of veteran wide receiver Jauan Jennings. But his training camp holdout may be amplified by the new revelation over the status of teammates Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall.
49ers WR Jauan Jennings, who is scheduled to make $7.5 million this season in the final year of his deal, wants a new contract or a trade, per sources.

NFL Insider Albert Breer shared the report:
The Niners announce they will start camp with WRs Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall and DE Yetur Gross-Matos on the PUP list.

You can add that to the risk of 49ers WR Demarcus Robinson facing a suspension to start the 2025 NFL season. So what are 49ers fans looking at as training camp opens:
- WR Brandon Aiyuk - Physically Unable to Perform
- WR Ricky Peasall - Physically Unable to Perform
- WR Jauan Jennings - Demanding to be traded
- WR Demarcus Robinson - Facing likely NFL suspension
- And also noteworthy
- DE Yetur Gross-Matos - Physically Unable to Perform
Add the defection of WR Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders, RB Elijah Mitchell to the Kansas City Chiefs, backup LT Jaylen Moore to the Chiefs, and LG Aaron Banks to the Green Bay Packers, and even the offense appears to be a bit suspect for the 2025 season.
According to Outland.com, the 49ers are facing Week 1 without any of their three projected starting wide receivers. And with the team trying to reassemble both on offense and defense around new players, it's critical to get players healthy and participating in training camp.
The 49ers are trying to replicate the Los Angeles Rams template from the 2023 NFL season. But it won't be easy, The 2023 Rams were bolstered by an exceptionally strong season from veteran QB Matthew Stafford, a shocking breakout season from rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua, and a breakout season by running back Kyren Williams. Do the 49ers have that level of talent in young players on their roster?
If they do, they are not obvious. The 49ers have plenty of players. But the team's talent level and experience plunge as soon as the team digs deeper into its depth chart. It's not even training camp, but Rams rival receivers are utter chaos right now. Of course, quick returns to health could allow the 49ers to salvage their season.
But with the 49ers wide receivers falling offline this early, the hopes for the team to use other last-place teams as stepping stones to return to NFL relevance. At this rate, other NFL last-place teams may use the 49ers as a stepping stone to return to relevance instead.
As always, thanks for reading.
