Konata Mumpfield has a golden opportunity to shine in Rams' Week 3 offense

The Los Angeles Rams' passing offense can be described as wide receiver Davante Adams, Puka Nacua, and all others. The trouble is, Nacua sat out Week 2. The next true receiver to show up in the offense is Tutu Atwell, who made one catch for 19 yards. After that? Konata Mumpfield, who thus far has one reception on three targets for 12 yards.

Someone has to step up quickly.

That someone should be Mumpfield. While the second-year receiver has hauled in under 50 percent of his career targets, he can make some incredible circus grabs. He never developed chemistry with starting quarterback Matthew Stafford last season. He has yet to find his rhythm this season.

Perhaps he will in Week 3.

Defenses are not blind. They see what opposing offenses have done successfully and gameplan to neutralize that success. As such, defensive coordinators won't labor over ways to stop Mumpfield, as he frequently does that on his own. But don't forget about Adams' young protege.

Konata Mumpfield could have a breakout game in Week 3

Mumpfield is the last guy the Broncos defense would expect to erupt. In his career, he has one touchdown catch while hauling in just 11 of 26 passes for 104 yards. Part of that low volume, of course, comes from playing behind two of the NFL's best receivers in Nacua and Adams.

With Nacua unlikely to play in Week 3, Mumpfield finally has his chance. After being targeted only twice last game, he could be significantly more important in the offensive game plan in Denver. He has so much potential. It's time to see what he's got.

He won't be the only receiver vying for targets. After all, LA has yet to see much from any of the five other receivers on the roster. Still, Mumpfield has all the makings of a solid contributor if he can just find some consistency. The former sixth-round pick continues in Year 2 with high hopes but yet to fufill expectations.

Week 3 could be the perfect opportunity. Head coach Sean McVay knows how to scheme players to get open. And Mumpfield knows his opportunities will quickly evaporate if he is unable to show up. The stage is set. Now, it's up to him to shine.
