Throughout his lengthy career, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has stepped onto the field knowing two things. One, victory does not come easily in the NFL And two, his team will likely depend on his arm to win. That's just how it's been for 18 seasons.
But if last week was any preview, things may be a-changing.
In that game, Kyren Williams and Blake Corum combined for 192 rushing yards on 5.8 per carry, with each eclipsing 90. It was easily the run game's most complete performance this season. In a recent interview on The Pat McAfee Show, Stafford described how his running back duo is perfectly suited for LA's offense.
"I haven't had a tandem like Kyren Williams and Blake Corum where they both can do everything," Stafford said. "We can call our entire offense with both of those guys in the game."
The offense continues to feature Stafford as its engine, propelling him to 1,989 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. But the Rams are also one of only two teams with two names among the league's top 25 rushers.
More impressive still, Williams is the only member of the top 10 with fewer than 100 carries. Corum is one of two rushers in the top 25 with fewer than 65.
Rams are in perfect position to let the ground game gather steam
NFL fans know that as temperatures fall and snowflakes swirl, the run game becomes vital. The Horns are one of the league's most effective rushing offenses. Seven games in, the only thing holding them back is their limited number of attempts.
Fantasy football guru Kyle Borgognoni highlighted just how potent Williams and Corum truly are compared to their contemporaries. Both lead the NFL in 5+ yard runs and are among the league leaders in explosive runs:

If LA chose to run the football, this offense could conceivably boast two 1000+ yard rushers.
As temperatures cool, the rushing attack should continue to heat up. Even as Stafford sets the pace among quarterbacks, the Rams can quietly establish their run game as firmly among the best in the NFL.
They just have to commit to it. Like it was in Week 7, that could be the key to winning games going forward.
As always, thanks for reading.
