As the LA Rams circle the wagons and try to get healthy, the relevance of the Rams' inactives list grows in importance. It's all one big chess move. After all, the choice over who to play and who not to play cuts to the very core of the competitiveness of the NFL. Those players who do not play cannot make plays.

It's akin to going to a school dance and never getting out on the dance floor.

Inactives list for Raiders in Week 7 (Projected)

  • WR Jakobi Myers
  • RB Dylan Laube
  • CB Sam Webb
  • LB Tommy Eichenberg
  • OG Dylan Parham
  • DE Janarius Robinson
  • LB Kanai'i Mauga

Inactives list for Rams in Week 7 (Official)

  • DE Dejuan Johnson
  • DB Tre'Davious White
  • WR Cooper Kupp
  • RB Cody Schrader
  • DE Jonah Williams
  • QB Stetson Bennett

The official inactive players names have been announced by the Rams social media account:

Inactive lists have been updated with the official inactives when that information becomes available approximately 90 minutes before kickoff

Now, what does this all mean?

Key Absences and Their Impact

Offensive Impact

  • The continued absence of veteran WR Cooper Kupp will strain the aerial assault. I expect the team will return to the two tight-offense this week, and throw to WRs Tutu Atwell, Jordan Whittington, and TE Colby Parkinson against the Raiders.
  • You have to expect a heavier workload for rookie running back Blake Corum this week, don't you? It's now or never for the team to bring talented players online to make a meaningful difference.
  • The Rams invested heavily into the tight end position. The only game that reflected that investment was a Week 3 victory. Coming out of the BYE, and on a short week ahead, I have to believe that 12-personnel is the plan today.

Defensive Impact

  • With Tre'Davious White inactive once again, and with Ahkello Witherspoon elevated for the third and final time this season from the practice squad, you have to exepect Witherspoon to draw the coverage assignment of Raiders TE Brock Bowers. How he handles the load will dictate how the team stocks the secondary going forward.
  • Despite getting plenty of QB pressure, this defense has struggled to close the deal with QB sacks. I think the dam breaks in this one, and the team will record 4.0+ quarterback sacks in Week 7.
  • Can the team create turnovers? Well, I'm not ready to stand on that hill just yet. But I believe that the team will end this game no worse than a net turnover factor of (0.0)

Special Teams Impact

  • Xavier Smith made the roster (finally). He celebrates today by putting up a 20+ yards punt return to commemorate his promotion.
  • The Rams have been getting incredible production out of rookie kicker Joshua Karty. Karty will deliver again today. Look for three or more field goals off his foot.

The Rams need to play fundamentally sound football in Week 7. I think they do.

As always, thanks for reading.
