The Los Angeles Rams picked up where they left off last year, as they look like legitimate playoff contenders once again. The team is 5-2, but tied for first place in the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks. During their bye week, the Rams and general manager Les Snead decided to take care of some business and add talent for their playoff push.
On Monday, multiple reports indicated that the Rams finalized a trade with the Tennessee Titans to acquire cornerback Roger McCreary in exchange for a conditional 2026 fifth-round draft pick.
With the Titans being well out of playoff contention and firing their head coach, they were an easy trade partner for contending teams. General manager Les Snead made a call and acquired McCreary to bolster their secondary. But with McCreary's entrance, it could very well spell the end for one player, and that's Tre Brown.
Rams' Roger McCreary trade could spell the end of Tre Brown's time in LA
The Rams need cornerback help this season. Cornerback Akhello Witherspoon was placed on the injured reserve last month due to a broken clavicle. In response, the Rams signed Brown on Sept. 16 to help fill in. Bringing in Brown did make sense, considering he played for the Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers.
The thing is, Brown has yet to play a single defensive snap for the Rams. He has primarily played on special teams, logging 60 snaps through five games, according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required).
The Rams made the trade for McCreary to eventually ease him into the rotation. After all, he was the Titans' starting slot cornerback. This season, McCreary allowed 24 receptions for 250 yards and two touchdowns on 28 targets, while also recording an interception, per Pro Football Focus. McCreary also recorded 25 tackles, 10 defensive stops, four pressures, three quarterback hurries, and one pass breakup.
The Rams desperately needed cornerback help. Not only is Witherspoon dealing with an injury, but now reports suggest cornerback Darious Williams is as well. General manager Les Snead made the McCreary trade for a reason. The secondary needs help now, something that Brown hasn't provided this season.
