This young LA Rams pass rush showed up massively in the Wild Card Round of the 2025 NFL Playoffs, putting up nine quarterback sacks to tie an NFL Playoff record. But throughout the week, Eagles offensive linemen scoffed at the Rams pass rush, indicating that they were more than confident that would not be a factor in this game.
And yet, the Rams pass rush put up four quarterback sacks in the first half.
That is a surprising statistic, as the Eagles offense had found lots of running room. But their play-calling seems to veer away from running the football to feature Jalen Hurts in the passing game. That has led to Hurts getting sacked often. And the Rams started sacking Hurts early in the game.
With 5:44 remaining in the first quarter, the LA Rams defense queued up to stop the Eagles on a third down and six yard to go. Surprisingly, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts dropped back to pass, and Rams rookie defensive tackle Braden FIske was in hot pursuit. Hurts wanted to get rid of the football quickly, but outside linebacker Michael Hoecht jumped in front of the route, forcing Hurts to pull the football down.
That gave enough time for Fiske to get to Hurts, rolling him down for the first quarterback sack by the Rams defense on the day.
But did Fiske win a battle to lose the war?
Immediately after the sack, reports from the game indicated that Fiske did not return to the football field with his teammates. Some reports indicated that he was on the exercise bike, trying to stay warmed up.
Ultimately, Fiske suffered a knee injury that led to him being ruled out of the game.
Fiske left the game with one tackle, that huge quarterback sack that seemed to start things off for the Rams defense. Since that initial sack, the Rams have recorded sacks by:
- DT Neville Gallimore - 0.5
- OLB Keir Thomas - 0.5
- LB Omar Speights - 1
- DB Jaylen McCollough - 1
- OLB Jared Verse - 2
Curiously the first five Rams QB sacks have come from rookies in this game. The sixth quarterback sack came with the benefit of a safety.
