It's Monday evening, and that means that LA Rams fans deserve another round of the Rams Mock Draft projection. To accomplish that, I used Pro Football Network's online mock draft simulator. Of course, using an online simulator is not always realistic. The hierarchy of rookie prospect rankings is still in transition. And PFN is not exactly meticulous as to the state of the Rams' projected draft picks for future drafts.
PFN projects the Rams with just six picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. But the Rams currently are projected to have seven picks in the upcoming draft. So we have to impose a bit of corrective action in using the simulator. There are always risks in any mock draft you find this early. There is a presumption that all rookie prospects will declare for the draft, will remain healthy, and all of their subsequent production and performances will remain consistent with historical data.
There are many examples of a player suffering a serious injury in the last games of the season, an undisclosed injury discovery at the annual NFL Scouting Combine, or even an unfortunate mishap at the player's collegiate Pro Day.
Knowing what we know, here is a solid Rams Mock Draft for 2025 that affords the team another excellent draft class to take on starting, rotational, or strategic backup roles on the Rams roster.
DAY 1
The absence of a Round 2 pick could be something that the Rams front office is perfectly fine with. Or it could be one of the holes in the team's draft strategy that GM Les Snead actively attempts to resolve on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft. Of course, as we have noted in the past, the Rams do not enter any draft with the prescribed intent to trade back. If the Rams first opportunity to step up to the podium has no coveted rookie prospects at that tier when the team makes its selection, then the likelihood of the team trading back is likely.
While it would be a great deal of fun to add a draft pick in Round 2, I opted not to do so in this mock draft.
Round 1 - Notre Dame CB Benjamin Morrison
Even as the LA Rams secondary has begun to show a bit of chemistry and proficiency in the latter half of the 2024 NFL season, I continue to view cornerback as a solid need (and not want) for the team. The team has added two veterans since the start of the season: Ahkello Witherspoon and Emmanuel Forbes. Per Spotrac.com, the team is not projected to lose any cornerbacks to the 2025 NFL Free Agency market.
The team will even welcome back veteran cornerback Derion Kendrick in 2025. Kendrick's season ended when he suffered an injury in training camp. Still, the team is carrying five cornerbacks on the active roster, one cornerback on IR, and three cornerbacks on the practice squad. But 'we have too many talented cornerbacks,' said not NFL GM or head coach ever.
Notre Dame rookie prospect Benjamin Morrison checks all the boxes for a Rams secondary who is looking for a young defensive back to show up ready to plug and play on a postseason-ready team. Morrison has solid size at 6-foot-0 and 190 pounds, has superb coverage chops and technique, and demonstrate excellent versatility to project instantly at a starter-level competitor. He is a solid run defender, and excels at both man and zone pass coverage. He loves to communicate. understands the nuances of outside versus the slot cornerback role, and is a sponge when it comes to coaching and learning from veterans.
Best of all, he demonstrated the ability to stick and cover former Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr.
I like the future of the Rams secondary. But adding a rookie with the upside of Benjamin Morrison turn like into pure adoration. I love the thought of adding him in Round 1. But the team has more positions to address. So let's turn the page to Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
