Day 2

While the team does not currently boast any picks in Round 2, the Rams have plenty of confidence that their scouts can sort through the weeds of data analytics, player profiles, and stats sheets to hone in on those rookies who not only play the game as intended, but whose passion for the game is off the charts.

The front office should use their two Round 3 picks on Day 2 to invest in players who can train with the team for a year, with a reasonable expectation that they will be ready for a larger role, and perhaps even a starting role, in 2026. While that may be an aggressive and optimistic plan, the alternative is to do nothing and hope beyond hope that the team and the right fit magically match in the 2026 NFL Draft.

So which positions should the Rams consider in 2025?

Round 3 - Georgia QB Carson Beck

Despite the vigorous defense of starting quarterback Matthew Stafford by many fans, time waits for nobody. And there are signs that Father Time is beginning to catch up with the Rams venerable starting quarterback. Stafford yards per game has fallen well below his career average (238.2 YPG versus an average of 269.8 YPG). His TD percentage is below his career average (4.1 percent vs. 4.6 percent). Perhaps most of all, the Rams and Stafford agreed to rework his contract to move all of his guaranteed money into 2024. Stafford is almost certainly not showing up to training camp in 2025 without guaranteed money.

While we should not view Georgia rookie QB Carson Beck as a plug-and-play addition to the roster, he offers plenty of intriguing traits to place him into a solid selection in Round 3. For openers, he stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 220 pounds, an ideal size to take on a starting quarterback role in the NFL in the future. He is a pocket quarterback, allowing the Rams to design one set of plays for the offense, rather that introduce chapters more appropriate for a dual-threat quarter. Beck is a former Georgia Bulldog, just like Matthew Stafford and backup QB Stetson Bennett. So the chemistry in the QB room should develop organically.

Beck has a quick and efficient release, ideal for a young quarterback looking to avoid sacks. And he played on the same Georgia team with Stetson Bennett that won two consecutive NCAA National Championships. He took over as the starter for Georgia in 2023 and 2024, completing 592 of 865 passes for 7,426 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions.

Beck is exactly what you might expect from a Day 2 quarterback prospect. He has plenty of promise to become something special in the NFL. He possess a quick release, a supercomputer processor when reading progressions, and an instictive glide/slide to avoid the pass rush. But he is not immune to coaching up. He sometimes throws his short passes low. He struggles at pump fakes, delaying the eventual release of a forward pass. And his frame, while solid, could probably benefit a bit more from weight-training to optimize his throwing distance.

Best of all, he already knows QB Stetson Bennett, as they competed for playing time at Georgia.
