Day 3
On Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Rams front office has the opportunity to add depth, surprise starters, and players who might excel on special teams. The Rams have tremendous success on Day 3 of the past three drafts, landing a starting running back (Kyren Williams), wide receiver (Puka Nacua) and center (Beaux Limmer). So who might the team add on Day 3 in the 2025 NFL Draft?
Round 4 - Oregon TE Terrance Ferguson
6-foot-5, 255-pound Oregon rookie TE Terrance Ferguson is but one of the very talented rookie prospect tight ends to be found in the 2025 NFL Draft. While the Rams front office has been very aggressive in its pursuit of talented tight end in past drafts, the abundance of tight end talent in this draft could allow the team to exercise more patience. Not all draft profiles agree on Ferguson's upside, but it's the Rams perspective that matters.
Ferguson possesses that combination of run-blocker, big target route runner that the Rams have sought for several years. His detractors cite his lack of top-end speed, his less-than-perfect blocking skills, a tendency to round his routes, and an unenviable trait to go down at initial contact. But he can block, can catch, can pull in contested catches, and can deliver an every down presence at tight end. If he falls to the Rams, he could be another diamond-in-the-rough.
Round 6 - Georgie LB Smael Mondon Jr.
There are valid reasons for the Rams front office to select Georgia lineback Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 6. For openers, he stands 6-foot-3 and weighs a hefty 235 pounds. He is amazingly versatile, capable of sliding into any number of linebacker roles in the Rams defense. Mondon is gifted enough to earn a starting role as the 'other' inside linebacker on the Rams defense. WIth his size, he offers solid pass coverage, superb tackling, and a willingness to meet the running back in the hole.
Because he is willing and capable of all responsibilities of an NFL inside linebacker, how can he be on the board this late? Some draft analysts see Mondon's inability to shed blockers quickly as a detriment. Others have determined that he is not always able to track the football. Still others cite his struggles to rush the passer. All-in-all, rookie prospect Smael Mondon Jr. is a yound linebacker whose immediate presence on the Rams should bolster the teams special teams. And with coaching and a solid training camp, could provide an opportunity to contribute to the defense as well.
Round 6 - Marshall EDGE Mike Green
You may not expect the LA Rams to address their Edge role after investing multiple picks to the position in recent years. But the defense has to keep the pipeline of fresh talent full, and the team's coaching staff is not always able to convert young raw talent into NFL Pro-Bowl caliber veterans. So, the search for new rookies is almost always a need.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 248 pounds, Marshall's Mike Green boasts the silhouette that NFL GMs love to see in rookie recruits at outside linebacker. But that is not all they will find in Mike Green, a prospect who recorded 17.0 quarterback sacks in 2024. Of course, the Rams were unsuccessful at converting wunderkind Chris Garretts outstanding college career at Concordia into a productive NFL career. But Mike Green is a different matter.
Green is a curious 'tweener' in that he has played most of his collegiate career as a 5-tech down lineman, but his size is likely more aptly suited for a two-point stance of an outside linebacker. He may come off the board sooner due to his outstanding pass rush in 2024. But if he is on the board on Day 3, the Rams would be foolish not to call out his name.
Round 6 - Louisville WR Ja'Corey Brooks
Of course, no Rams mock draft is complete without the team adding a wide receiver. As it now stands, the team is projected to lose WRs Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell, and Tyler Johnson due to expired contracts. The team may attempt to extend some receivers, but I would be very surprised if the team did not part ways with at least one wide receiver in 2025. Therefore, the team will want to add a promising rookie to backfill that roster vacancy.
6-foot-2, 195-pound Louisville Cardinal rookie wide receiver Ja'Corey Brooks is an ideal fit for the Rams offense. He is an excellent route runner, showcases deceptive speed, has a vice-like grip that almost always wins contested catches, and puts up significant yards after the catch. Brooks also brings vital experience as both a kickoff and punt returner, adding immediate value to the roster on day one of the 2025 NFL season.
Brooks is a productive wide receiver who falls in the 2025 NFL Draft due to his inconsistent production and injury history. In 2023, he only caught three passes for 30 yards in nine games. He rebounded in 2024 after transferring to Louisville, catching 61 passes for 1,013 yards and nine touchdowns.
He may come off the board sooner. But with medical flags (a concerning shoulder injury) and inconsisten production at the college level, there is a good chance he falls to the Rams on Day 3. And the Rams, as they so often do, will be more than happy to scoop him up.
As always, thans for reading.
