Les Snead can't afford to test fate on a massive Dolphins free agency risk

He's nearly 32 years old and coming off a serious injury. It the wrong time to entrust this Dolphins free agent with the keys to the castle.

The Los Angeles Rams need to give serious consideration to upgrading their secondary. But the NFL free agency market can be an optical illusion. What that means is that veteran players who performed well with a former team may not find similar success in LA.

With the team facing 2026 without speedy wide receivers Tutu Atwell and perhaps Xavier Smith, the team may be tempted to offer a contract to former Miami Dolphins fleet-footed wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

That would be a huge mistake.

Nobody is stating outright that Tyreek Hill could not contribute to the right offensive scheme. It's simply the uncertainty of what the right scheme resembles. After all, he is a 32-year-old wide receiver who is attempting to reclaim his speed after a serious injury.

Those tales often do not end as planned.

Hill is blessed with the type of speed that offensive coordinators dream about. But with the fast footwork comes the drama. And LA doesn't need any drama in the locker room. But for that one, does any team seek out off-field headaches?

What do the Miami Dolphins know to allow Tyreek Hill's release?

Tyreek Hill managed just four games in 2025, with 21 catches, 265 yards, and one touchdown. But he is a receiver who was blessed with extraordinary speed and milked that advantage as much as he could. He's played 10 seasons in the NFL.

It's okay to speculate that he's lost a step.

Hill is a high-volume performer. He's averaged over 120 targets per season. That works out to more targets than anyone on the LA Rams roster not named Puka Nacua.

Could he become that guy? Sure, and every reader could be the first person to set foot on Mars. But it's unlikely to happen. Right now, this team has to go all in to improve the chemistry and performance of the overall team. Tyreek Hill simply doesn't offer enough to suggest he can bring that to the Horns.

As always, thanks for reading.
