The Los Angeles Rams have the good fortune of having rockstars in both the coach and GM roles, and Les Snead has been flexing his muscles often in recent months as he tries to lock up many of the franchise's top young assets for years down the road.
The Rams agreed to another contract extension with an offensive heavy-hitter, locking up running back Kyren Williams with a three-year deal. Snead may have handed Williams a fairly big contract, but he didn't cut off any fingers or sacrifice the Rams' cap space too strenuously in order to do so.
Williams' deal is just $33 million over three years, which makes him just the seventh-highest-paid player at his position. That can be easily spun as a money-saving deal, which will free up more money for other young players in need of a new contract.
Snead has done it again. The Rams have more than enough money to play with in the upcoming next few years.
Les Snead does it again as Rams give Kyren Williams solid extension
Even if the Rams end up moving on from Stafford after this season, it's hard to make a much better situation for a young quarterback than what LA has. If they can make one more offensive line addition, the Rams should be able to keep winning once they reboot.
With Williams taking less than high-end money to stick with the Rams, Snead now has some extra wiggle room as he tries to sign many of the better young players in his 2023 and 2024 draft classes. Snead must now come to terms with multiple starters on both sides of the ball.
Once Puka Nacua gets his eventual megadeal, and many of the members of the Rams' ultra-young defensive line (which featured four key contributors from the 2023 and 2024 class), Snead can rebuild on the fly and keep this team competitive. It takes a master drafter, talent evaluator, cap strategist, and negotiator to make this all come together.
The Rams will go through plenty of changes in the next few years, but as long as Snead and McVay are in charge, fans can feel confident and reassured that this team will be able to put together winners.
