Rams fans left holding their breath after sudden Jared Verse injury scare

We don't know much yet, but what we do know is not great.

It was obvious to anyone in attendance during the Los Angeles Rams' scheduled joint practice and scrimmage with the Dallas Cowboys that their offensive line had few answers to negate the pass rush of 2024 DROY Jared Verse. It was so obvious that even Dallas beat writers had to surrender to his dominating performance.

And with the team sitting starters in preseason games, there was no reason to fear injury. And yet, those mishaps often occur when you least expect them. Such was the case when Verse was injured at practice Thursday and had to be helped off the field by the team's trainers. Not much was known about the injury at the time, and after practice, only minimal details were shared:

With the team experiencing as many minor injuries as the Rams have, fans are understandably getting a little jumpy.

Rams fans shouldn't ring any alarms over Jared Verse just yet

While we have few details about the injury, we do have some relevant information at our fingertips. And with the Rams' first regular-season game one month away, there is plenty of time to regroup and get the 24-year-old mended and ready to play.

Since they only have three preseason games and won't play their starters, Verse faces a less grueling workload. And with his smashing success in the lone joint scrimmage, he is already in the know about where he stands in terms of competing at the NFL level. Even though he doesn't have a lengthy NFL career's worth of experience, he knows what comes next.

The defensive snaps will not go to waste as the team sorts out the proper placement of edge rushers on the depth chart. As it now stands, the Rams players are:

  • OLB: Jared Verse, Nick Hampton, Brennan Jackson, Jamil Muhammad
  • OLB: Byron Young, Keir Thomas, Josaiah Stewart, Josh Pearcy

With Verse potentially out, even temporarily, his reps will be distributed among the rest. Many of the players who will see a boost to their rep are rookies, who are the most in need of more snaps. While nobody on the roster can flip a switch and pick up Verse's slack, seeds or repetitions planted today can bear fruit at season's end.

This is a disappointing development. But this is not something that, on the surface, cripples the Rams defense or automatically translates into missed time for the up-and-coming star.

This team has plenty of depth to handle Verse's absence. So let's sit back and wait for more detailed information to come out before we sound any alarms. As always, thanks for reading.
