The Los Angeles Rams are bursting with playmakers. So it's not surprising to learn that WR Brennan Presley will have a difficult time making the team. He's just not good enough as a wide receiver to make the grade. And he is simply not good enough as a running back. He may not even be gifted enough on special teams. But combine the three areas, and he is dynamite. That is great news for a team that needs explosive playmakers.
The team did not invest a great deal of draft capital into the wide receiver position. The lone draft selection for the role was in Round 7, a draft pick acquired from the Atlanta Falcons, and used to select Pittsburgh Panthers WR Konata Mumpfield. But with a team returning veterans Puka Nacua, Tuta Atwell, and Jordan Whittington, plus the addition of veteran WR Davante Adams, it was deemed sufficient.
Still, there are so many things that a wide receiver can add to a team. He can catch passes, yes. But a gifted receiver can augment the offense by rushing as well. And of course, there is the need to block. Even special teams can get a great boost from a talented receiver. Those roles are not typically performed by a veteran. Undrafted rookie Brennan Presley won't hesitate to help out.
Rams Brennan Presley is an explosive playmaker on the field
Unlike some undrafted rookie wide receivers, Presley is not telling the NFL how well he will play. He simply suits up and does it. And he has done so by catching passes from the team's third- and fourth-string quarterbacks. He played three preseason games, hauling in 11 passes for 164 yards and one touchdown. That works out to an average of 14.91 yards per reception.
It gets better. For a team that is seeking explosive playmakers to add to the roster, he checks those boxes, too. The team's social media account celebrated the fact that he recorded five plays that gained more than 16 yards:
According to TruMedia, WR Brennan Presley now has five explosive receptions (16+ yards) in the last three games, leading all NFL receivers during the preseason.#Rams | #RamsHouse pic.twitter.com/7ARb2EHhbv

For a team that is known to be seeking the type of players that can make explosive plays, this appears to be the perfect solution to fill that need.
The 23-year-old stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 176 pounds. He runs a 4.46-second 40-yard dash and was one of three wide receivers signed by the team after the 2025 NFL Draft. He was a versatile and productive offensive weapon at Oklahoma State.
Will he make the active roster? The team typically carries six receivers, and four roster spots are claimed. It doesn't bode well that he was playing in Game 3 of the preseason, while neither Mumpfield nor Xavier Smith took the field.
If he is released, you can bet the team wants to sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers. That is a big if, as many NFL teams would love to have a versatile and productive player on their roster, too. The Rams' preseason proves Rams GM Les Snead found a hidden gem in this rookie sensation. The harder trick may be trying to keep him on the team. As always, thanks for reading.
