The strategy of the Los Angeles Rams front office in Round 7 was clear. With the 242nd pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. the team had one last opportunity to draft a rookie prospect who could be developed into a larger future role, who had a special team penache, and who was such a solid fit for what the team wanted to do that they could not risk letting him fall out of the draft, and be signed by a more attractive offer elsewhere.

While I hoped the Rams might look elsewhere for wide receiver reinforcement's, I have to admit that Pittsburgh Panther rookie wide receiver Konata Mumpfield was not on my draft board for Round 7. But as I crammed to learn something about him, I began to realize why he appealed to the Rams.

In essence, he's just different.

What I mean is that he is not 6-foot-1, 205-210 pounds, and runs precision routes. He stands 5-foot-11, weighs 186 pounds, runs a 4.59-second 40-yard dash, and has tremendous versatility to line up on the outside, in the slot, and even projects to the backfield. Konata Mumpfield put up solid numbers in four college seasons, three of which were with the Panthers. He showed steady improvement, ending with 52 catches for 813 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged an impressive 15.6 yards per catch.

And he even has some special teams experience to ignite heated competition in training camp.

ESPN Draft analyst Louis Riddick loves this fit

Sometimes, the fit for a rookie prospect with an NFL team is so obvious that the dots seem to connect themselves. That is certainly the case for Konata Mumpfield's fit with the Los Angeles Rams, if you are ESPN draft analyst Louis Riddick, that is. You see, Riddick projected Mumpfield to the Rams two weeks ago. And he was certainly more than happy to share that bullseye on social media when the Rams selected him:

I am still doing my research on Mumpfield, so I don't want to professa a wide ranging understanding of his entire offensive arsenal. But from everything I've read and seen to date, he is a passionate wide receiver who embodies a 'we not me,' mindset. He likely won't get a huge number of targets in his rookie season, but he will make the best of them when they happen

And with the endorsement of Louis Riddick, and the selection to the Rams roster, I am looking forward to seeing what he will do for the offense in his rookie season.

As always, thanks for reading.
