Matthew Stafford just sparked a brutal Davante Adams reality for Rams fans

This doesn't sound reassuring.

The Los Angeles Rams will not be adding to their trophy collection this year, as they fell just short of reaching Super Bowl 60. The Rams fell to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game and, in doing so, dropped wide receiver Davante Adams NFC title game record to 0-5.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford appeared on the Let's Go! podcast following the disappointing loss and spoke about Adams missing out on a Super Bowl ring once again. His comments did not make it sound as though the two would be playing together again next year.

"He deserves the opportunity to, you know, at least go play in a game that gives him a chance to put a ring on his finger because he's that type of player," Stafford said. "I told him, 'Man, I wish I could have been, you know, better for him and gotten us to where we wanted to go just to give him that opportunity because he's such a great player in this league. He's got such an amazing legacy in this league. It didn't happen. That's a tough pill for me to swallow but I do appreciate the hell out of him and what he did for our team and what kind of teammate he was. He's a special guy... Big time player in this league for a long time."

As Rams fans are well-aware, Stafford turns 38 years old next week and his future is definitely going to be a hot topic of conversation this offseason, much like it was last year. He managed to stay healthy for the entirety of the 2025 season and is one of two frontrunners for the MVP award so clearly he's still performing at a high level.

The decision will be up to Stafford and if he wants to keep putting his body through the gauntlet that is the sport of football for another year. His comments here about Adams, however, don't make it sound as though Stafford is for sure coming back for another year. Adams is signed for another year but will Stafford still be the guy throwing him the football in 2026? That remains to be seen.

It's unfortunate that Adams continues to get so close to a Super Bowl but has yet to make it to one. He made four NFC title games when he was with the Packers earlier in his career and they always came up short. It was a similar story for him in his first year with the Rams.

Stafford clearly feels badly about not being able to get Adams there but hopefully, he makes up for it by returning for an 18th NFL season and getting the Rams to the Super Bowl.
