McVay gives 'subtle flex' as he owns the camera in Super Bowl LIX pregame show

He may be an accomplished NFL head coach, but Sean McVay owns the camera too.

No, I'm not here to start any rumors about the LA Rams and Rams Head Coach Sean McVay. That ship arrived after the team finished 5-12 after winning Super Bowl LVI. The strain on McVay's face showed in the post-season press conferences. It must have been torturous for the Rams head coach to reach the pinnacle of his NFL coaching career, but then plunge to the depths of his coaching career the very next season.

Rams GM Les Snead told McVay to take as much time as he needed. Rumors that Coach McVay would be joining the Amazon Prime Time NFL broadcasting team surfaced. But, in the end, the rumors subsided, McVay returned to the team, and the re-energized Rams head coach led a band of young players to a 10-7 record and an appearance in the 2024 NFL Playoffs.

But Coach McVay is not just a guy who knows Xs and Os. He has a knowledge base that rivals that of a computer. He has instant recall. He has an infectious personality. And the camera loves him.

Whatever change occurred within himself to bring Coach McVay back to the team in 2023 did not stop there. His appeal to a national audience in front of the camera levelled up as well. McVay is not just a guy who can rattle off obscure NFL factoids, now he is the guy who is at home in your living room sofa, joking and laughing along with everyone while sharing tales and insights that everyone perks up to hear.

And he does so with such a devilish grin that you can't help but join in the raucous laughter that fills the room:

But McVay is more than a fun-loving prankster. He has lived through his share of NFL seasons and has a sharp mind that can recall and diagnose almost anything. He has helped to inspire and lead coaches from his staff to their own time in the spotlight. So he not only knows the players but the coaches as well.

Coach McVay touts Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni as the most disrespected coach in the NFL. And it's hard to rebut that argument. Sirianni has had a level of success that few coaches can tout since leading the Eagles:

No, McVay is not going to leverage his Super Bowl LIX pre-game performance to squeeze more money out of the Rams. He's not even going to use the experience to plan his next career move. Right now, Sean McVay only sees the LA Rams head coaching role in his future. And that's as it should be.

But he will continue to keep his name and face out there for that someday when his coaching career ends and he must pivot to a new career path. He is a natural fit in the broadcast booth. And that broadcasting career can wait until he is ready to take on a new challenge.
