The Los Angeles Rams know where they struggled in 2024. The coaching staff and front office are pivoting from the NFL Playoffs to the 2025 NFL season. The goal? How to improve this team effectively. One of the first places to start is to revisit the Rams offense. Per Over the Cap.com, the Rams spent more on their offense than any other team in the NFL. Considering that the Rams' offense finished the season in 20th place, that was poorly spent money.

So now the team must determine the best way to shave funds out of the offense and redirect them to more effective avenues. That could be renegotiating contracts, releasing players, or some combination of the above. Now, keep in mind that the team has not even begun to reform the roster, which means that everything may be on the table.

Even the unthinkable.

The Rams roster does not yet have left tackle Alaric Jackson under contract for 2025. He was not the problem, as his one-year deal in 2024 cost the team less than almost any other starting left tackle. So if the team wants to clip some coupons on the offensive side of the football, they will need to start at the top. And per Over the Cap.com, two veterans combine to cost the team nearly $80 million in 2025. They are starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, and wide receiver Cooper Kupp.

Are they very good players? Yes. Are they worth the $80 million currently earmarked to pay for their services in 2025? You be the judge. Clearly the Rams did not get that level of production out of players. And for a team that is quick to reward players that outperform their contracts, they must be just as swift to renegotiate contracts to players who underperform.

Right now, both Stafford and Kupp could be in that category.

The matter has become even more complicated to interpret when LA Rams HC Sean McVay was asked whether Staffor and Kupp would definitely be playing for the team in 2025. His response thanked them for all of their work with the team in the past. So the question remains up in the air.

Both Stafford and Kupp have commented that they want to play football in 2025. But I don't know if that will will with the Rams at their current projected salaries. The offense struggled to score points all season, and the team needs to find ways to pay for more playmakers.

The offseason for the LA Rams is just starting, and we've already learned that the team may be ready to shake up the offense. Stay tuned, as this could prove to be a theme throughout the offseason.
