The Los Angeles Rams are taking a huge gamble. Despite finishing oh-so-close to winning it all last season, the team appears to be retrenching and regrouping. After an offseason that reconstructed the secondary, fans expected big swings for playmakers.
Instead, the Rams converted 10 draft picks into five drafted rookies.
Of course, LA is more about quality over quantity right now. The team has every starting spot already accounted for. So the draft strategy was primarily focused on depth players who have a legitimate upside and a chance to earn a future starting role. Perhaps one of the most impressive and subdued rookie additions is Ohio State's rookie tight end, Max Klare.
He's good. And if you need proof, just sit back and listen to the love that NFL analyst Mina Kimes showers on him:

Los Angeles has a history of swinging and missing on top tight end talent. General manager Les Snead failed to draft Dalton Kincaid in 2023, Brock Bowers in 2024, and Colston Loveland and Tyler Warren in 2025. Instead, the team settled for Davis Allen in 2023 and Terrance Ferguson in 2025. So what business does the Yellow and Blue have selecting another tight end?
Rams are looking to Max'imize their offense going forward
After overpowering defenses with a wide range of 11-personnel looks, head coach Sean McVay is aiming to innovate a tight-end- heavy chapter of offense for the foreseeable future. LA's offense topped the NFL in scoring points in 2025, so the team is doubling down on 13-personnel packages for now.
And Max Klare fits that strategy to a tee.
The team is not necessarily planning to part ways with veterans Davis Allen or Terrance Ferguson, but Klare is not about to surrender playing time this season, either. In many ways, he arrives as a Dalton Kincaid doppleganger, a pass-catching tight end who can effectively block.
If the Seattle Seahawks think that everyone can pen their names as NFC division winners for 2026, Max Klare is evidence that it won't be that easy.
Mina Kimes points out the obvious. In a play-action offense, Max Klare will feast. Well, LA runs a play-action offense. And even as his bread-and-butter role in the offense is catching passes, this 6-foot-5, 246-pound tight end is a formidable blocker as well.
In 2025, Los Angeles targeted tight ends 144 times, generating 113 receptions, 1,128 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns. But what if the tight end group could improve that 78 percent reception rate to 85 percent? That works out to 9 more receptions, 90 more yards of offense, and two more touchdowns. And yes, Max Klare can deliver that in his rookie season.
Of course, rookies struggle for opportunities in LA LA land. But unless Terrance Ferguson drastically improves his pedestrian catch rate, or Davis Allen learns how to churn out more yards after the catch (YAC), Klare is waiting at the on-deck circle to show them both how it's done.
Mina Kimes is already on board. It won't take long until Rams fans are too.
As always, thanks for reading.
