MNF loss to Falcons exposes Rams Kryptonite for the entire NFL to witness

This was supposed to be one of the best teams in the NFL. Whoops!

When it comes to the 11-5 Los Angeles Rams this season, one thing is quite certain. The team plays differently depending on where the game is being played. For the travel-weary players, SoFi Stadium is a much better place to be. And now, the proof is in the pudding. Los Angeles is simply not nearly as effective on the road, and the entire NFL knows it.

Of course, playing a grueling four of the past five games on the road doesn't help. But in the past four road games, veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford threw 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. He's only thrown eight interceptions all season long. So part of the problem is Stafford on the road. But it's not all on one guy.

Since demolishing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home by a lopsided 34-7 score, this team has lost three of the past five games. Perhaps more alarming is the fact that four of the past five games have been on the road. Therein lies the rub. This team had little motivation for Week 17, and it showed.

Are the Rams content as a wild card or just bad on the road?

There is so much data that begs to discover the hidden trend. Right now, the Rams locked up a playoff berth against the Detroit Lions in Week 15. While the team has lost the next two games, both games fell on the road, and in both games, the team was ultra-conservative in choosing to sit players who were battling injuries.

Before we dive into decrying Los Angeles for its latest loss, let's cite some facts.

It's easy to just look at data as a singular point and draw a trend line from that data point. But this team sat anybody with a bump, bruise, or boo-boo in Week 17 and still lost by only three points. So for fans, there is no reason to worry needlessly.

But in the NFL, there is a saying that a team is what its record says it is. Right now, the 11-5 LA Rams are just 5-4 on the road, with three of their latest losses coming on the road. Coincidence? Something more? The thing is, there is simply insufficient time remaining on the schedule to determine the answer.

As a wild-card team, the Horns must expect to play four consecutive games on the road. If recent history is any indication, it will not go well.

Los Angeles plays one more game, at home. If this team struggles against the 3-12 Arizona Cardinals at home, then panic among fans and the coaching staff will surely ensue.

As always, thanks for reading.
