There are many things about the Los Angeles Rams that I love this season. But many NFL analysts continue to take a wait-and-see approach regarding the 2025 season. That is not to say that an occasional NFL analyst won't jump in and tout a player or unit of the team as something special.
NFL analyst Albert Breer is one such analyst who loves something about this team. He recently published his "What to look for at Rams training camp" article, which is chock-full of tidbits and trivia that will delight fans.
He has a strong sense of how LA seems to compare to the 31 other teams, and he loves what he saw from the defensive front. He even suggested it may be the best defensive front in the NFL this season. That's the kind of praise you cannot ignore.
NFL insider delivers massive praise for Rams defensive front
He’s not wrong. Even before bolstering the defensive front, this unit beat the breaks off of the offensive lines of both the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles in last year's playoff run, recording 16 sacks in just two games. Now, they’ve added NT Poona Ford, rookie DT Ty Hamilton, and rookie OLB Josaiah Stewart.
Breer didn't sugarcoat his admiration for the defensive front:
"The defensive front might be the best in football. Jared Verse and Byron Young give the unit real strength on the edges, and rookie Josaiah Stewart is positioned to back them up. And the hope is that the Rams can get Braden Fiske and Kobie Turner attacking upfield more, with steady veteran nose Poona Ford capable of eating up blockers and taking hits off of them.
Second-year man Tyler Davis and rookie Ty Hamilton should be part of the equation as well, as rotational run stoppers. Overall, the massive investment the Rams are making post–Aaron Donald in their front—one that showed up in the playoffs in a big way—is paying off." - Sports Illustrated NFL analyst Albert Breer
No wonder he was so impressed in his assessment. Right now, DE Kobie Turner is fighting through some back pain (week to week), and Ford is fighting through a groin injury. However, neither veteran is expected to miss the start of the regular season.
Los Angeles was very focused on getting stingier on run defense, and the impression from multiple beat reporters and NFL analysts is that they may have overshot the mark. Not only is this team's defensive front seven stingy against the run, but the team has enhanced its pass rush in the process.
The Rams need to show up and make a bold statement at every opportunity this season. They appear to be poised to do exactly that. As always, thank you for reading.
