So you are not convinced about the LA Rams' ability to draft solid rookies just yet? Well, hold onto that thought. After the team was criticized in their 19th overall pick in Round 1 and their 39th overall pick in Round 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft (and what it cost the team to move up in Round 2), I believe it's time for the defense to call their first expert witnesses.
The first defense of the LA Rams and their decisions made throughout the 2024 NFL Draft. A panel of ESPNs premier NFL Draft experts, including Mel Kiper Jr., Field Yates, and Mike Greenberg, weighed in on who should have been drafted in a revised order and to teams whose needs from the rookie class are now crystal clear.
And when they redrafted Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft, both Kiper and Yates drafted Florida State OLB Jared Verse long before the Rams stepped up to the podium.
The Rams were quite fortunate on draft day as so many teams rushed to the offensive side of the football. That allowed Florida State outside linebacker prospect Jared Verse to fall to the Rams at the 19th overall pick. We have stated repeatedly that he was projected to come off the board within the first 10 picks of the draft, and his production has confirmed that lofty projection.
So where is he selected in the ESPN redraft? He comes off as the 11th overall pick. Curiously, the LA Rams tried to trade up in the draft to select another player, former Georgia TE Brock Bowers.
We had one mock draft in which Verse actually fell to the Rams at 19. But that was so few and far between. The reason? Verse was always viewed as the best overall pass rusher in the 2024 NFL Draft class. Still, teams have specific needs. Some teams viewed UCLA OLB Laiatu Latu as the best 'pure' pass rusher. Other teams viewed Alabama OLB Dallas Turner as the better NFL prospect, because he had a more polished technical feel to him.
But we loved the Rams pick of Jared Verse at 19.
