NFL schedulers kept fair-weather Rams away from NE snow squalls

Playing football in snow is an acquired taste, and skillset.

The Los Angeles Rams have had plenty of late-season games in the snow belt of late. But whether or not you believe that something is amiss with the weather of late, or merely a run of good luck, the team has not had to play in the white stuff that falls from the sky this time of year. If you don't know what they call that white stuff, it's snow. And having lived a significant amount of time in Alaska, I can honestly tell you that snow has gotten a bad rap.

The last game that I can recall that the Rams played when snow fell occured all the way back in 1985 when the Los Angeles Rams faced the Chicago Bears in brutal cold and winds. That game did not end well for the Rams, but if you want to see The Horns in falling snow, you can revisit that game by clicking on this link.

So Rams fans have not had great experiences when the snow flies.

The Los Angeles Rams face the New Orleans Saints in New Orleans, Louisiana this week. While there are reasons to fear the weather at times in New Orleans, snow is not one of them. But in Buffalo, New York, there is a local phenomenon known as Lake Effect Snow that can dump feet (that's right. Not inches, but feet) of snow on the city over a span of time that can last for days, or even weeks.

Right now, the San Francisco 49ers (5-6) must travel to face the Buffalo Bills this week, and the lake effect snow machine is cranking out a carpet of the white stuff to welcome them:

Some fans believe that snow can be some of the worst conditions to play football. While the aftermath of a snowstorm can check all those boxes, playing in snow can be quite entertaining. Snow is softer, making tackles and football less injury prone. Due to the numbing cold, coaches often accelerate their rotations, ensuring that players stay warm and refreshed.

And snow is typically only falling during the holiday season, which is unto itself a positive mood maker.

The Rams will be enjoying the comfort of 62 degrees and safely competing under the Caesars Superdome. The 49ers and Billes will brave the elements, competing in temperatures just above 20 degrees Fahrenheit with plenty of snow falling.

Snow is an acquired taste for football fans. And since the Rams have not had much experience or success in the white stuff, I am grateful that the NFL schedulers are sending the 49ers, and not the Rams, into that white out this week.

As always, thanks for reading.
