As the Los Angeles Rams scheme, plot, and strategize for the 2026 NFL season, the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are duking it out for the right to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Keep in mind that LA was just five points away from competing in this one. But that is neither here nor there.
What is on the to-do list is determine how Los Angeles can improve to compete in Super Bowl LXI.
The Horns faced Seattle three times in 2025. If you compile those three games, they lost to the 'Hawks by a total of three points. Three games by three points. LA is really close on this one. But the competition in the NFL is not like a hand grenade. Close simply isn't good enough.
General manager Les Snead is unlikely to be watching the Super Bowl with an eye to who he might poach from the competing teams. But just in case, we've compiled a list of projected free agents that Snead should keep on his radar.
The challenge is that players have to make plays.

Rams have to invest in secondary to stop Seahawks in 2026
Super Bowl LX is still playing. But it seems obvious that the Patriots secondary is frustrating Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold. In the first half, Darnold has completed just 9-of-22 passing for 88 yards. That's solid defense, particularly when compared to the same guy who completed 76 of 114 passes for 895 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Even when Darnold threw four interceptions in one game, the Rams secondary was unable to shut down Darnold's connection to wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Pass rush needs urgency
The Patriots have not sacked Darnold yet. But the defense has mixed it up with multiple creative blitz packages that have kept Darnold guessing. And a guessing Darnold is not a very dangerous Darnold. LA's defense was committed to stopping the run, but when the team needed to stop running back Kenneth Walker III in Week 16, it was unable to do so.
Secondary needs serious investment
Let's call it like it is. The LA Rams secondary is fine for the regular season at suiting up, defending plays, wash, rinse, and repeat, but it simply doesn't have the capacity to level up in key games or even in key moments during games. Snead has not spent many dollars on the secondary or the defense as a whole.
That has to change.
It’s the Christian Gonzalez and Devon Witherspoon Super Bowl so far.

A true CB1 can go a long way at this stage. As the Rams have to consider this offseason.
The Rams cornerbacks may be proud players, but they have yet to stop JSN. Since it will face him at least twice a year, the front office must be much more aggressive at finding talented players. Whether that comes in the free agency market, one thing is crystal clear.
The Horns cannot win a Super Bowl unless they can get there. And the team will never get there until the secondary significantly levels up in the offseason.
As always, thanks for reading.
