The Los Angeles Rams proved in a stunning Week 7 victory that their offense is not to be trifled with. Despite Puka Nacua, the team's best offensive weapon, sitting out with an injury, the offense seemed to score at will, putting up the most points (35) scored this season.
So, why would LA entertain adding more offensive weaponry? The more, the merrier.
Los Angeles did not have a perceived need in 2021, but the sudden availability of elite wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was too irresistible. But it was a stroke of genius, as injuries struck without warning. In 2025, a similarly successful season for Los Angeles, injury has already claimed Nacua.
Should the Rams take a calculated risk and add more weaponry?
The Tennessee Titans are not going anywhere this season, and veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett has been granted his request for a release, per NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Much like 2021, this is an unexpected opportunity. Now, the question becomes, how quickly will general manager Les Snead pounce?
Tyler Lockett could be the mid-season cavalry for Rams offense
Let's not fool anyone. The Titans got next to nothing out of Lockett. In seven games, he caught just 10 of 21 targets this season for 70 yards. And at 33 years old, he is fighting against Father Time as much as against NFL defensive backs at this point in his career.
Still, changes in zip codes can be meaningful for a professional athlete, particularly one who has his sights set on postseason competition. Lockett doesn't have to be the veteran mentor on LA's roster; Davante Adams has that box checked off. He needn't be the go-to guy as Nacua has that box checked off. Lockett needs to be what he is: a wide receiver looking to contribute.
Lockett had no problem catching passes until 2025 when he played for the 1-6 Titans. When he faced the Horns in Week 2, he hauled in two of three passes for 9 yards. But how well did he appreciate babysitting an offense that was clearly rebuilding around rookie quarterback Cam Ward?
The veteran needn't be a savior. Just one more veteran option in this offense.
He can still do that, and Los Angeles definitely has a place in this offense for it.
As always, thanks for reading.
