VI - TE Gerald Everett

With the 44th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, the LA Rams select tight end Gerald Everett from South Alabama. While the 6-foot-3 240-pound tight end was a steady contributor for the LA Rams offense, a player selected in Round 2, particularly at an offensive skill position, should be expected to deliver more than just 400 yards of offense per year.

Was it a bad fit? Was it bad coaching? Or was it the fact that Everett was sharing time with teammate tight end Tyler Higbee? I don't have the answer. But what I do know is that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was selected with the 63rd overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert was selected with the 49th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was selected with the 146th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Clearly the LA Rams did not hit on the pick as hoped.

While Everett never seemed to blossom for the LA Rams, he did drastically improve his reception rate in his lone season in the Seattle Seahawks offense. The following season, with the Los Angeles Chargers, he finally broke 500 receiving yards in one season.

He is not out of the NFL just yet, and he may yet become a productive offensive weapon for some NFL offense. But in his four seasons with the LA Rams offense, he never showed signs of anything better than an average NFL tight end. And that is very underwhelming for the 44th player taken off the board.
