Round 6: Part II - Another cornerstone for the secondary
With the 213th overall pick, the LA Rams select CB Sheridan Jones, from Clemson. The Rams may have addressed their secondary in this draft, but there is always room for more. That is even more of the rule when the Rams have a chance to add a rookie with upside potential like this defensive back. Jones is a solid option here, standing 6-foot-0 and weighing 190 pounds.
While the LA Rams are happy with the additions to refurbish the secondary for 2024 to this point, the team has an option to add more depth, and bring another defensive back to the fold. In 2023, the LA Rams had to shop the free agency market to round out the secondary. That won't be the case in 2024.
Jones has good size, moves well, tracks the football, shadows the receiver, and is consistently in a position to make a play on the football. But Day 3 defensive backs are a bit raw. Jones tends to give an overly large cushion in zone coverage. He also struggles at the transition of backpedaling to pivot his hips and follow the receiver in pursuit.
All of Jones poor techniques can be coached and corrected relatively easily in training camp. The LA Rams need secondary depth, and Sheridan Jones cand provide that, and more.
