(3) - Rams are still making the NFL Playoffs

While the team still has a chance of making the NFL Playoffs, the path to the postseason is no longer a given. This is not about the retirement of Aaron Donald. Rather, this is about a deep roster that was devastated by injuries after two games. The odds for a healthy 0-2 team to make the NFL Playoffs have fallen to ten percent. But this team is not healthy. The team is already without two starting offensive linemen, the top two starting wide receivers, and the starting tight end.

And that is just the offense.

Rookies cannot earn trust that is never given to them. And rookies cannot gain experience without playing. The Rams' key offensive rookies so far have struggled to earn playing time. Per Lineup.com, the Rams have played three rookies on the offensive side of the football, and they are:

  • Rookie RB Blake Corum - 8 snaps - 8 carries | 28 yards
  • Rookie WR Jordan Whittington - 28 snaps - 2 of 2 catches | 22 yards
  • Rookie IOL Beaux Limmer - 93 snaps | 0 penalties | 0 sacks allowed

Now, keep in mind that the offense has lost two staring wide receivers, two starting offensive linemen, and a starting tight end. But as more and more veterans on both side of the ball are injured, the team will be forced to suit up and play young players. The thing is, while the team can mathematically still make the playoffs well into October, the team must turn the corner on the injury front long before that happens.

The Rams absolutely can make the playoffs. But if someone has lost hope that they can, they are not wrong either. Many playoff teams fail to reappear in postseason the following year. And based on the teams current record and the abundance of injuries, the odds are stacked against the Rams this year.

Fans need something to cling to for hope. A Week 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers would be that type of catalyst.
