III: Braden Fiske will dominate everywhere on the defensive front
When the LA Rams missed out on trading up for DT Byron Murphy II, you knew that they would strike quickly to address the position. And as the draft began on Day 2, defensive linemen were in a bit of a mini-run. Only Murphy and DE Darius Robinson were chosen in Round 1. But before the Rams selected in Round 2, three defensive tackles came off the board.
That forced the Rams hand. Either the team had to trade up to the 39th overall pick to select former Florida State Seminoles defensive lineman Braden Fiske, and preserve the Seminoles set, or stand pat and select whomever fell to the team at 52. But rest assured, Fiske would not fall further.
For the Rams, history was made, not from the cost of trading up, but in the value of preserving that Seminoles' magic and transplanting it entirely intact into the Rams' defensive front. Perhaps the person most surprised about the Rams' earnest interest in selecting him comes from defensive lineman Braden Fiske himself.
Just listen to him in this interview, and notice the calmness and relaxed manner. He is growing accustomed to this team, and this role. But he is neither boastful nor trash-talking. He is about the grind, the task of improving every day.
And then, there is this. As soon as the pads went on, he went to work. In fact, he is one of the standouts of the first day of donning pads:
Fans are noticing his early shine. More and more burst on social media cite Braden Fiske as a player who stands out in training camp so far:
There is a lot of ground to cover. But with Fiske showing up so large already, you have to wonder if he is going to see any action in preseason games. As it now stands, he may be benched for all three preseason contests, and won't see live action until the Rams take on the Detroit Lions in Week 1.
