3 cap casualties who make too much sense to add to Rams roster

The LA Rams have significantly more pressure in 2024 than 2023. If for no other reason than more resources, the team's success last year has certainly raised the bar of expectations. Now, can the front office deliver on the renewed optimism? I think that the answer is a resounding yes.

But even with significantly more salary cap dollars at their disposal, this team may not rush to sign free agents. The first players signed may be the headliners, but they are not always the best value. And after several free agent additions that simply did not pan out for the team nor the player, the front office may be a bit more judicious in how quickly, who, and for how much players are signed in the offseason.

But the team is fettered by more than a fine eye for a bargain. Because the team has grown accustomed to the additional compensatory picks that are awarded due to the annual migration of free agents from the Rams roster to other teams, the team may not wish to inflict harm to themselves in the case of any possible awarded compensatory picks for 2025.

And so, like The Great Wallendas, LA Rams GM Les Snead must begin the perilous tight-rope journey that upgrades the team's roster, fits within a budget that can afford some, but not many free agents, and does not diminish any potential compensatory pick awards in next year's draft due to offsetting outbound free agents with new contracts for inbound free agents.

The team wants to improve, but not at the sake of pulling future draft pick out of the teams ammo box. After all, we have seen just how effective the team can be in any given NFL Draft in later rounds (RB Kyren Williams and WR Puka Nacua are just two examples). With that in mind, here are three players who could fill needs on the Rams roster, but have no ill effects on the team's compensatory pick algorithm.

These 3 cap casualties make sense for the LA Rams

  1. Option III: Refurbish a formal SB QBs career?
  2. Option II: Add a former foe to the roster?
  3. Option I: Reunite with a mighty mouse DB?
