Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is running out of time in his NFL career, but he still has a shot to win the NFL MVP award in 2024. When Stafford got traded to the LA Rams in 2021, my personal prediction was that he would win an MVP award with Sean McVay. And his "rookie" year in LA in 2021 was an MVP-caliber season.
Well, the 36-year-old might not have a ton of time left in the NFL as a top passer, but this 2024 Rams team might end up being the best team he's played on during his NFL career. Could there be a chance that the battle-tested veteran in Stafford could enhance his Hall of Fame resume and earn the NFL MVP award?
Let's cover three reasons why it can happen.
3 clear reasons why Matthew Stafford can win the NFL MVP award in 2024 season
1. He finished the 2023 NFL Season on a torrid pace
From Week 5 of the 2023 NFL Season through the LA Rams postseason loss to the Detroit Lions, Matthew Stafford tossed 23 touchdowns against just six interceptions. His passer rating of 103.8 during that stretch is just elite-level football. And how soon we forget how lethal he was through the air during the 2021 Super Bowl season.
He tossed 41 touchdowns that year and averaged over 287 yards per game. It's not like Stafford has hit a wall and his declining. And while I have talked about that happening on this website before, it hasn't happened yet. The way he ended the 2023 NFL Season should make us eager to see how he does in 2024. I mean, the OL got a lot better in free agency. The young play-makers on offense are going to be that much more experienced, and Stafford should start the year in 100% health.
And I do believe in momentum, so you have to figure that the offense is watching a ton of film during their second-half resurgence last year to try and bring that mojo into the 2024 NFL Season.
