The latest Top-50 draft board for the 2024 NFL Draft has finally dropped from NFL Media Analyst Daniel Jeremiah, and if nothing else, it confirms that this rookie draft class is bursting with talent. Better still, the class's top 50 rookie prospects in this draft class are such that the LA Rams appear to be shopping for the type of positional talent that is plentiful in this year's draft class.

Even though the LA Rams possess just one pick among the Top 50 selections of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Rams do project to possess as many as four draft picks among the Top 100 players selected. And while some view the Rams roster as needing upgrades at multiple positions, there is no way to argue that the Rams are anywhere close to facing the challenges of one year ago.

Fun Fact III: The 2024 NFL Draft class aligns nicely with Rams roster needs

The consensus of needs for the LA Rams in the 2024 NFL Draft (depending on which players are re-signed this offseason) are Edge rusher, Cornerback, and Offensive tackle. It j just so happens that the Top-50 prospects in the upcoming draft are loaded with promising players at those positions, many of whom appear to be solid fits for the Rams roster.

Fun Fact II: The Rams have some incredible options on the board at 19

If the selections made on Day 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft adhere to Daniel Jeremiah's board, the Rams will have incredible options on the board when they step up to the podium for the first time on Day 1 of the draft since hiring HC Sean McVay. Some players who could be there include:

  • 19- Toledo CB Quinyon Mitchell (who is showing up huge at Senior Bowl practice)
  • 20- Texas A&M LB Edgerrin Cooper
  • 21- UCLA Edge rusher Laiatu Latu
  • 22- Texas DT Byron Murphy II
  • 23- Oregon QB Bo Nix

The list is so promising talent wise, that you could make an argument for the Rams to trade back in Round 1, add an additional draft pick or picks on Day 2, and still emerge from Day 1 with a starter.

Fun Fact I: The Rams are perfectly position should anyone fall out of top 50

Where Jeremiah's list really gets interesting is the last five prospects listed. The reason for that is the fact that the Rams are projected to pick in Round 2 with the 52nd overall pick. That means that the Rams are ideally positioned to select anyone who might fall out of the Top-50. So who are the last five prospects on the list?

  • 46- Alabama Edge rusher Chris Braswell
  • 47- NC State LB Payton Wilson
  • 48- Texsas DT D'Vondre Sweat
  • 49 - Western Michigan Edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland
  • 50 - Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley

The Rams are not the sort of team to pick a highly ranked prospect simply to add a highly regarded player to the roster, regardless of fit. But the LA Rams are finally in a position to make a significant and positive impact to the Rams roster in a single draft, by choosing four times in the first two days.

The Rams have never been this rich in terms of draft pick in the Sean McVay era, and the team will try to optimize the chance to fill and enrich multiple roster needs early in the draft. That could mean multiplying picks, as we have found in 2023that it really doesn't matter when the Rams draft, but rather how often.
