The 2024 version of the LA Rams roster is bursting with youthful energy and passion, but that is not to say that this team does not hold an enclave of veteran savoir faire. After all, despite drafting 10 and signing 16 undrafted new rookie players, 54 player are either returning from the team in 2024, or were signed during the 2024 NFL Free Agency market.
So now the question is: Of the returning or newly signed veterans, who will put on their career best? Of course, the hope is that all players will do better than ever. But let's not be too greedy. After all, the Rams did get stellar performances out of rookie WR Puka Nacua, OLB Byron Young, NT Kobie Turner, as well as unexpectedly stupendous seasons out of RB Kyren Williams and RG Kevin Dotson.
So in the words of WCW Wrestling Champion, Bill Goldberg:
"Who is Next?"Bill Goldberg
Well, we have three veterans who are ideally positioned to put up career high numbers. They are:
III: LT Alaric Jackson
I may have talked up LA Rams veteran left tackle Alaric Jackson before, but it's worth repeating. The team extended Jackson for one-year , a modest $4.89 million for a starting NFL blind-side tackle. So he must not be that good, eh? Quite the contrary. The LA Rams extended him for 2024 because he was quite good. Per Pro Football Focus, Jackson played 968 offensive snaps, allowed just one quarterback sack, and was penalized three times. So how can he realistically improve upon that?
Well, Jackson suffered minor injuries in 2023, causing him to sit out in two games. So starting more games for the team would be a career high.
But for all intents and purposes, that was the first season that Jackson began the season knowing that he had earned the starting job at left tackle. In 2024, he returns knowing that he is the starter. And all of the experience earned in 2023 will direct his training, motivate his workouts, and serve as a solid foundation for a new year. I loved the growth and improvement of Jackson through 2023, and expect more of the same in 2024.
