(4) - ILB Omar Speights

I don't know of any player who has unified this fan base to rally in support of a player like undrafted LSU rookie inside linebacker Omar Speights. He has the aura of the great linebackers of yesteryear of the Los Angeles Rams. You know, the guys who loved to play in the rain, wind, snow, mud, and any other slop that Mother Nature could throw at them. Speights, much like his LB predecessors, loves to play football no matter what the weather throws at him.

Speights leads the defense in tackles through two games, with 12. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Speights has a presence on defense that exudes toughness. He tackles hard. He rarely is out of position. And he doesn't miss a tackle.

THat was confirmed by Rams GM Les Snead from the broadcast booth:

If you want to see some solid defense, you are likely hoping to see Omar Speights line up alongside starting ILB Ernest Jones IV.

(3) - WR Jordan Whittington

The LA Rams likely already had decided to ensure rookie WR Jordan Whittington would make the team's roster. But with the depth of the team's receiver room, Whittington needed to get reps. And he most certainly did. He was one of the stars of the preseason, not just for the LA Rams, but among all NFL receivers, through two preseason games.

Whittington has done more than catch passes for this offense. He runs crisp rountes, and he blocks like a tight end. That is exactly what the team sought in a receiver when they drafted the former Texas rookie prospect.

It's homecoming day for Whittington. He was one of the favorite players on the Texas Longhorns, as fans appreciated his selfless style of play that helped the entire offense succeed.

While just a rookie who continues to learn the ropes, Whittington exploded in this preseason offense to put up plenty of yards and raise some eyebrows. Some NFL analysts were so impressed that even project Whittington as the teams WR3. That is unlikely, but he will get some targets this season.
