5 bold predictions for LA Rams in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams have a lot riding on the season opener against the Detroit Lions in Week 1. Not only is this a chance to get revenge for a one-point loss in the 2024 NFL Playoffs, but this is a game against an NFC team that is almost certainly to be involved in the 2025 NFL Playoff seeding. So a win now will aid the Rams in several key tiebreakers.
But it won't be easy.
Despite all of the preseason precautions taken to ensure that the roster remains injury-free, the team has already placed seven key contributors on Injured Reserve. Even more troubling, the Rams must start the 2024 season with two players serving a two-game suspension.
Considering teams are alloted 53 players on their active roster, that is a huge percentage of players who are unavailable to face the Lions in the Sunday Night Football opener. But this team in Horns will do more than make do with the players that they have.
You see, this team has been underestimated since 2022. After plummeting to a 5-12 record, the NFL was eager to turn their gaze away from the LA Rams in search of a new NFL Head Coach like Sean McVay. You see, NFL analysts love only one thing better than building up a team, coach, or player. That is finding the next team, coach, or player to build up who will supplant the original one.
But in the haste to search elsewhere, many analysts have forgotten one basic principle: Don't bet against a winner. The Rams were one point away from victory with a bargain basement secondary and a no-name defense the last time these two teams met. Now, what scandalous soothsayings should I share about this rematch?
