5 bold predictions for LA Rams in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions
By Bret Stuter
(3) - WR Puka Nacua will put up 100+ yards and at least 1+ touchdown
Certain players are the bane of certain teams. In the Wild Card Round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs, rookie WR Puka Nacua went absurd on the football field, catching nine of ten passes for 181 yards and a touchdown. That us a 90 percent catch rate. Clearly the Lions secondary had no clue how to defend him as he ran his routes, nor how to tackle him after he caught the football.
And he is more physical, more precise in his route running, more experienced, and more confident than ever.
That's not a good thing for the Detroit Lions. But it's music to the ears of the LA Rams and Rams fans.
Some NFL analysts have already begun to diminish the phenomenal rookie season of Puka Nacua. Almost as though he is some NFL version of a one-hit wonder, the projections for 2024 have already pivoted to the usual and customary wide receivers who break the 1000+ receiving yards plateau, but who have never broken a record of any kind, or even threatened to break them.
Curiously, the LA Rams have two such receivers who have shattered records in the three seasons of QB Matthew Stafford standing tall in the pocket. Both Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua can individually carry this offense to victory if they get hot. As the Lions' secondary focuses on Kupp, Nacua will do what he does best. Namely, gash their secondary for big gains and a score.
