(2) - Can Rams pass rush improve over Game 1?

The LA Rams pass rush has been a huge topic of discussion this offseason, and has been one of the reasons why so many NFL analysts who do not track the team rigidly have pooh-poohed the team's chances in 2024. No All-Pro DT Aaron Donald in 2024 is easily translated into no quarterback sacks to those NFL authorities who simply do not very much about the Rams defense.

But this is a new season, and the likes of Byron Young, Kobie Turner, Michael Hoecht, Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, and Brennan Jackson will all likely have something to say on the matter this season. The funny thing is, not one of them has recorded a quarterback sack yet. Not in a preseason game, at any rate.

So who contributed to the Rams three-sack performance against the Dallas Cowboys? Believe it or not, those sacks belong to OLB Zach VanValkenburg (1), rookie DE Anthony Goodlaw (1), and rookie DT Tuli Letuligasenoa (1). So the question is, can the Rams pass rush improve in Game 2?

The team was close to many more quarterback sacks. OLB Nick Hampton (keep an eye on him this season) recorded two quarterback hits, but was not quick enough to get a sack. So too, OLB Keir Thomas got two QB hits without a sack. The Rams depth on the defensive front was looking like anything but depth players on the roster.

If the group can produce another solid performance of putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks, not only will they complicate the coaches decision over who to release at the roster cut-down deadline, but they will almost certainly be scooped up instantly by another team.
