McVay has plenty of reasons to be pleased in 2024

I have to say that Coach McVay seems and says that he is quite pleased with the Rams first few days of OTAs so far, and I believe him. If there is anything that yields a clue as to how the team is progressing and whether or not things are going well, you will find it in the demeanor of Coach McVay. So far, he seems to be quite content.

That was not the case just one year ago. At this time, reports were already beginning to surface that the Rams coaching staff felt a bit frustrated, and that the team needed to gear down to the basics of learning how to learn to play football in OTAs and in training camp. If you recall, the Rams roster was split about 50/50 between veterans and rookies.

It was that initial observation that triggered the team's front office to spring into action once more. The Rams added several veterans after the fact who would prove to be significant contributors to the team in 2023. The team signed WR Tyler Johnson in late May 2023, veteran WR Demarcus Robinson in mid-June 2023, and veteran DB Ahkello Witherspoon in late June 2023. The team reunited with DB John Johnson III in August 2023.

It was clear that the team needed more veteran leadership, and that was discovered in OTAs. But it did turn out to be wise observations. The Rams not only added veterans to set the pace throughout training camp, but were able to land incredible bargains in the process. In many ways, it was the Rams ability to self-assess the weaknesses of this team that allowed the front office to address those vulnerabilities quickly and decisively that allowed the roster to get restocked on the fly.

But what of the wide receiver position for 2024?
