Landing spot III: LA Chargers

Now we enter into the realm of making complete sense. We know that the LA Chargers head coach, Brandon Staley, is feeling the heat after losing in the first round of the NFL Playoffs to the Jacksonville Jaguars, particularly after taking a commanding 27-3 halftime lead. The final score of 31-30 was brutally painful for the team, and the head coach, whose forte is defense.

The Chargers made as many 'changes' to the coaching staff as possible, leaving the blame for the NFL Playoffs collapse land at the feet of OC Joe Lombardi. But the heat is on, and the Chargers will be expected to not only get into the playoffs again, but win a few games once this team gets there. And so, Chargers head coach Brandon Staley knows that he must take off the kid gloves and come out swinging for the fences.

The curious part of this scenario is the fact that the Chargers have been a landing spot for many former Rams defensive players. From DE Morgan Fox and Sebastian Joseph Day to LB Troy Reeder, it seems as though if an LA Rams player hits free agency, they will get an offer from the Chargers. And just to point to the pieces all falling into place, the Chargers are projected to lose DB Nasir Adderley in the 2023 NFL Free Agency market. So the Chargers have a roster spot waiting for Jalen Ramsey's arrival. What might a trade look like?

Notice a pattern? The LA Rams get a package of valuable draft picks to address the growing list of roster needs in 2023. Meanwhile, the Chargers land a seasoned veteran defensive back who can bring a bit of discipline and accountability to their young secondary. The conditions of the 2024 NFL Draft pick could become a fourth-round pick if Ramsey fails to play a certain number or games, or a second-round pick if the Chargers advance to the AFC Championship game.
