5 unstoppable offensive stars who must carry the LA Rams into the postseason
By Bret Stuter
QB Matthew Stafford
The master of the Rams offense, and the field general for HC Sean McVay, is veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. The team made significant investments in the offensive line in 2023, and the results were a refreshed Stafford who earned Pro Bowl honors for only the second time in his career.
Since the initial investment into the offensive line seemed to yield such positive results, the front office doubled down and made significant investments into the offensive line this year as well.
In 2023, the Rams passing offense, powered by rookie Puka Nacua, was the 10th ranked passing offense in terms of yards gained. But this offense fell to 15th ranked in terms of passing touchdowns, 18th in terms of interceptions thrown, but rose to sixth-ranked in terms of quarterback sacks allowed.
Even as LA Rams starting quarterback Matthew Stafford earned Pro Bowl honors for only the second time in 2023, the offense has to improve upon those 2023 statistics. I believe realistic goals for 2024 are to improve quarterback sacks allowed to no more than 30, shave interceptions to no greater than 12, to increase passing touchdowns to 30 or greater,
Is that doable in 2024? In 2021, the Rams allowed just 31 quarterback sacks, threw 18 interceptions, but threw for 41 touchdowns. So yes, it can be done. Perhaps the wildcard variable to achieving such optimistic targets in 2024 resides in establishing a consistently effective ground assault. If the team can move the football on the ground, the offense can dictate the terms of when and how they pass.
It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a team to win a Super Bowl. To win Super Bowl LIX, the Rams will need increible efforts from these five offensive stars, and from the entire roster.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read the article.
