6 players who must perform well for Rams Game 2, including Stetson Bennett

(4) - DB Josh Wallace
Rookie running back Blake Corum is not the only former Michigan Wolverine fighting for a contributing role on the team for 2024. Undrafted rookie defensive back Josh Wallace is fighting hard, not just for a contributing role, but for a roster spot, on this team. And while he showed up well in his preseason debut, the competition for a spot on this secondary is fierce.
He will need to do more in Game 2.
The coaching staff did not skimp on the defensive snaps for Wallace, letting him play 32 defensive snaps, which worked out to 45 percent of the work on the defensive side of the ball in Game 1. He was targeted twice, allowing one catch. He also made two tackles on the afternoon. Unfortunately, his teammates like Jason Taylor II, Tanner Ingle, and Jaylen McCollough, all had more productive outings.
And roster slots are limited.
The thing is, defensive backs must not only make tackles, but prevent the receptions that mandate them. And Wallace has some chops on playing pass coverage. He seemed to be a natural in Game 1 in pass defense, never playing out of position, tracking the ball and the receiver well, and not making any mental mistakes that resulted in penalties.
